Motorcycle Tire Modeling Using Deformers

January 31, 2013

Front Tire Shaded

Instead of a Five Minute Tip this week, I thought I’d produce something a little different. One of the more challenging tasks that I face when modeling a motorcycle (something I’ve become quite practiced at) is the creation of the tires. Below is a screencast walking you through the process I’ve recently used. I’ve also included the downloadable project files for you to play with.

Cupcakes Wallpaper

December 23, 2012

cupcake-wallpaper-2880x1800

This wallpaper was inspired by some of the Windows 7 wallpapers and was quite fun to create. It uses the new-ish Physical Renderer in Cinema 4D R14 for the depth-of-field effect. There are sizes for various desktops, the iPad 1 and 2 (1024×1024), the iPad 3 (2048×2048), and the Macbook Pro Retina (2880×1800).

Freebie: Potted Vine

Potted Vine

When arriving home from work this week, I spotted a dry patch of dirt. It was cracked, and had a dark spot in the center. I was instantly struck with the inspiration to create a simple clay pot with the dirt I saw, and a vine growing from the crack.

The video below is sped up and shows the process I used to create this simple scene. You can also download the Cinema 4D scene file. It should open in versions 12–14. You should read on for the video and the download. (more…)

Polygonal Landscape Wallpaper

July 14, 2012

poly-wallpaper-1920x1200

This Polygonal wallpaper, inspired by some of the Android 4.1 (Jellybean) wallpapers and is my first ever wallpaper (desktop) that I’ve published. There are sizes for various desktops and I’ve even re-rendered it for the iPad 1 and 2 (1024×1024), the iPad 3 (2048×2048), and the new Macbook Pro Retina (2880×1800). Because each size is rendered separately, the size you choose will be slightly (more…)

Cinema 4D Motorcycle Chain Rig Walkthrough

Motorcycle Chain Walkthrough Snapshot

Here’s a video walkthrough of the motorcycle chain rig I recently posted. I’m trying to create more screencasts as I think they have long lasting value, just as a blog post like this one does. The main purpose of this walkthrough is to accompany the download for this rig available at TurboSquid. The video below walks you though the modifications necessary

Freebie: Cinema 4D Motorcycle Chain Rig

April 24, 2012

Cinema 4D Editor

A simple Xpresso motorcycle chain rig for Cinema 4D. This rig was originally created for some of my higher polycount bike models. Its purpose is to provide an easily poseable motorcycle/bicycle/chainsaw style chain that uses Instances to replicate the links.

The length of the chain can be adjusted by adding additional link instances, and the spline that the chain rests on can also be easily manipulated and animated. There is also an animatable value that can be used to make the chain progress.
