Papasan Chair 3D Model

I’ve been modeling a popular Papasan style chair and I must say that the cushion was a pretty difficult part. It’s definitely tutorial material and although I’m not sure I’ll find the time, it would be a great topic for a screencast. Either way, here’s an image of the chair in question.

If you’d like to buy a copy, it’s available at TurboSquid

  1. Awesome stuff Jamie….Id really love to see a tut on this if you can manage to find the time. There is no tuts like this…for any 3D app that I have found. I have been trying and am getting pretty much nowhere….well, nowhere that looks like that :]

    • Hey Tara,
Thanks for checking out my model and for the kind words. Creating this model was a trial and error process. I think I completely scrapped the cushion about 4 times before settling on a modeling process.

I’d love to create a screencast detailing how the cushion was created. As you mentioned, time is the issue and if I can find the time, I’ll record a screencast about it.

      • Hi Jamie,

You’re very welcome. Its very well done. Im the same….It often takes me a few goes to get things right. This one I just cant get. Its the cushion that’s got me. I understand you are busy but that would be awesome if you could do that. I will keep checking back over time for sure.

        Cheers for the reply.

      • Hey Tara,
I managed to find a few minutes to get a walkthrough of sorts done. I hope it’s useful to you and anyone else who is interested. Papasan Chair Screencast

      • Hi Jamie

That’s brilliant….thank you so much. I owe you one :]

I actually made a thread at the C4D cafe to see if someone there would shed some light on how to do this. I still hadn’t figured it out so this is super. Would you mind if I post this in that thread or elsewhere if I think it would be helpful to others?

Im not sure if you mind me posting this link here, but this is the thread incase you are interested…

Congratulations on the new baby. It was really nice of you to take the time to do this while you have so much on. Thanks again x

      • Post it wherever you’d like. I appreciate the exposure. And I’m glad it was helpful!
