Running SpinRite on one of my disobedient hard drives

It has always been a little finicky and I'm hoping that this tech looking tool from GRC evens the odds. #blog

  1. All clear. The drive has been fine, but it was troublesome months ago. I simply copied the info off of it, disconnected the SATA cable and kind of forgot about it. The tool I ran is interesting however… it's kind of like stretching for muscles. You can't always tell if you're fixing a problem when stretching, but the mere act of trying can be beneficial. Anyhow, there are some "deeper" modes I can use that are designed to iron out kinks, but it'll take about 50 hours on a 640GB drive. One mode basically reads and writes the data several times, looking for strange IO while doing so.
