Everybody Loves Sketch

September 12, 2009 by Jamie Hamel-Smith

A while ago, I saw the I Love Sketch Video for the first time and I was blown away. I kept hoping that it would not be one of those university projects that us mere consumers never get to experience (see the Jeff Han demo with the large multitouch screen)
Recently I received an email from Seok-Hyung Bae (that was probably addressed to all the people who emailed him over the past year or so asking about the project) and it said that they’ve got a new paper out and that the I Love Sketch/Everybody Loves Sketch is currently in alpha form, and he’ll let everyone know when it’s in beta form.

More info can be found at the I Love Sketch Homepage: http://www.ilovesketch.com/

I really can’t remember the last time I got this excited about a piece of software, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I’ve embedded the newer video below for your viewing pleasure:

It’s been almost four years since any real news; i hate to say it but i think your prediction about projects like these never making it to consumer hands may ultimately have come true. There is even another similar application called JustDrawit that looks like it hit just about the same level and stopped. Kind of disappointing. :(

I agree… I really wished that this would have gotten to the market, or even the open source scene. I’ve not heard of JustDrawit, but I’m off to check it out right now. Thanks for dropping in, and for your comment.

Looks like maybe it may have ended up here: CATIA Natural Sketch.

(I wouldn’t be surprised if a company like this offered a lot of money for the rights… or maybe they made their own.

I love sketch would be perfect for me to, clear my brain of all the ideas floating in there. Since my drawing skills have lapsed over the years. I loaded one of the example sketches into maya and it looked great. I would love to try it.

      also another similar tool:

I’m very excited to get my hands on this too! (If it ever gets released)
It looks like it would be fun to do 2D sketching in the software as well.

      Hi An,
The best way to contact the makers of this software is via the website: http://www.ilovesketch.com/ or the email address: shbae [at] dgp.toronto.edu
I am also excited to use the software, but it’s not yet commercially available.
