Taping Cables Together with the Collision Deformer in Cinema 4D

This tip demonstrates a technique for taping wires/cables together. It uses the Collision deformer as an aid, making sure the tape is snugly applied to the wires.

The use of the Collision deformer in this tip was inspired by Mike Udin’s tutorial on the Collision deformer. I found his tutorial useful even though it seems to be entirely in Russian. I discovered his tutorial in the C4D Weekly newsletter; issue #17. I suggest you check out the C4D Weekly archive, and subscribe to their great weekly email.

Please leave me any feedback that you have, and if you liked this video, you should share my Five (or in this case, Ten) Minute Tips section with your friends. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.

  1. Found this just yet, and can’r stop watching your very, very interesting toturials! Thanks a lot!

  2. you should break down your videos to the actual content: the first five
minutes have nothing to do with the collision deformer; it is just playing
around with colours and other objects. the entire video could be shortened
to three minutes in order to explain the collision deformer’s functions.

  3. Thanks for this! I needed it to create a blindfold on my character!

  4. Just subscribed m8, awsome tutorial. Just a quick quick question, what did you press to get the shortcut to lines mode view? you moved the mouse to the viewport and then clicked something quick. Thank you

  5. Great Tutorial, Thank you.
Is there a way to simulate the way tape would be wound around the wires, staggared?

  6. Someone posted your channel url on the c4dlive chat. Amazing tutorial. Thanks!! I was looking for a tutorial a few weeks back for a project of mine – (wwwdotmartinvivekdotcom/Bits-n-Bytes). But I’m sure it will come in handy in the future. 😀

  7. If I put the tape cylinders inside a cloth NURBS to get a little bit of thickness, would it still work accurately with the spline wrap deformer? Thanks again for the tip!

  8. Fantastic tutorial, thank you very much for showing us this important tutorial.

  9. Another great one! You are fantastic. BTW, you are not the only one who search a command in the menu because of always using a short cut you forgot about its location in the UI! 🙂

  10. A really excellent tutorial with many applications and very well explained.
    Thankyou very much
