Additional RC8 Updates: Foot Controls, Frame Welding

This is the first time I’ve attempted to create smooth transitions between the mounting points and tubes of a trellis frame. If I were to create a rough analogy, the trellis frame would be like a model of the Golden Gate Bridge while the box aluminium frame of most other bikes would be like a country bridge made of two by fours. I’ve got to say that the transitions turned out buttery smooth Read More

RC8 Surface Renders

One of the pivotal points in a model is when I start to render it. Rendering a model (using the right shadowing and occlusion) will let you know what parts need more detail and what parts should be ignored (in terms of adding more detail).

In the images below you can see that certain areas are starting to be filled in with shadows and don’t really require additional details. Read More

RC8 Mirrors

The mirrors on a bike usually help create the silhouette of the machine. The RC8 mirrors are no ordinary kit either. Two things about these mirrors are relatively uncommon. Read More

Pickup Truck 3D Model Free on TurboSquid

Grab a copy of my pickup truck 3D model on TurboSquid for free. I’m giving it away as it was a class project and it’s not something that was selling well anyway. It’s available in the following formats: C4D, FBX, Maya, OBJ & WRL.

I would appreciate any feedback about the model (You can just post a comment here, and/or leave a review at TurboSquid) and I hope you can find a good use for it.

Get it either by clicking my store link at the top of the page, or by using the button at the end of the page. Read More

RC8 Front Caliper

This image is of my latest bit of work on the KTM RC8 model I’m creating. It shows a detailed area of the front wheel, showing the brake caliper, brake rotor and fork end.

The resolution of the caliper itself is a bit high for my liking, but after Read More

Second Image of the Unnamed (Now KTM) Bike

At this point it shouldn’t be much of a guessing game if you know your bikes.

This bike is very distinctive, and thus far the most challenging thing for me is the fact that it’s a v-twin and I’m having trouble judging the distance between the engine’s cylinders and the fearing. From certain angles it feels like the gap is too large. Read More

A Short Post Regarding Blizzard’s New Game

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty is Blizzard’s latest offering. Chances are if you haven’t heard of StarCraft or played it first hand, then someone has enthusiastically told you about this game. Back in the late ’90s, StarCraft was a game that changed the rules. It wasn’t the first, but it defined what a RTS game should be. I remember playing it with my co-workers at the computer store I worked at (when no customers were around of course) and it was an addiction! It was the game that all hardcore gamers knew, played and likely played well.

Over 10 years later, StarCraft 2 has not changed the game again, Read More

750cc V-Twin Engine Low Poly Model

Here are some renders from my latest model, a 750cc V-Twin (water cooled) engine. Unlike the Harley Davidson engines you’re used to seeing in the V-Twin configuration, this engine, like many other SuperMoto engines, is water cooled; hence the lack of those distinctive cooling fins.

Can you guess what bike it is?

Update: I’ve outed the bike in a more recent post, so we all know it’s the KTM RC8.

Starcraft II Repair Utility?

Perhaps it’s just that I’ve not played Warcraft III since my friend bought it back when it launched, or maybe it’s that I have not become a WoW head yet (some say it’s inevitable), but I have never seen this side of Blizzard’s games: Read More

The Dread Crew of Oddwood at Comic Con 2010

Walking along the street after exiting Comic Con on Saturday, we passed by this great band-o-pirates. There was a huge crowd gathered and the pirates were performing awesome music and just having a great time. We watched for a song or two and then moved along, and are now looking forward to seeing them at a renaissance fair in the near future.

Great job Dread Crew! You earned a few new fans on Saturday!

Why RC Helicopters Are Addictive

Man has always been fascinated with flight, but even more fascinating is hovering flight; whether it be a hummingbird or helicopter.
As a child, I always wanted an RC helicopter of my own, but the barrier to entry at the time was very high. Today the cost of an entry level helicopter has come way down. A three channel (up, down;turn left, turn right; move forward, move backward) helicopter can be had for anywhere between $20 and $60 depending on the size and features.
Durability and electronics are also a huge factor. Todays helicopters withstand more crashes Read More
